{"id":1161,"date":"2008-12-19T10:59:58","date_gmt":"2008-12-19T14:59:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=1161"},"modified":"2008-12-19T10:59:58","modified_gmt":"2008-12-19T14:59:58","slug":"old-and-new","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=1161","title":{"rendered":"Old and new"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">As much\u00a0as each Christmas holiday brings it&#8217;s own memories &#8211; though I&#8217;m still trying forget about those from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=459\">last year<\/a> &#8211;\u00a0t<span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">he best part for me is looking back on seasons past.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Old:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Decorating the tree.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>This one is obvious, but one of my favourite things to do at Christmastime.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Especially at my mom\u2019s.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>We spend half the time unwrapping the ornaments and remembering when we got them, who gave them to us and why we love them.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Especially the scary Santa one.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019d post a pic but I\u2019m too frightened of him.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">The food.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Oh my, the food.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I eat for days and days and days and don\u2019t regret it for one second.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s what the New Year\u00a0is for.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Eggnog.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>You either love it or hate it.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019m in the \u2018love it\u2019 group.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Especially with rum.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Lots of rum.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Speaking of alcohol\u2026A few years back my sister and I <em>accidentally <\/em>got wasted on Christmas Eve.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>I think it was slightly embarrassing for my parents who had all their friends over, but it was a helluva lot of fun. We haven\u2019t been able to do it every year since because we aren\u2019t always together, but we try.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Perhaps we&#8217;ll pick this one up again this year&#8230;Liz?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">Cruises down Taffy Lane.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">My beloved angel that sits atop our beautifully green, though fake,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=410\">Christmas tree<\/a>.\u00a0 This angel is the very one that\u00a0was once the angel that sat on my Nanny and Pappy&#8217;s tree.\u00a0 Every year\u00a0my grandfather\u00a0would tell me and all my cousins about how, on Christmas Eve, once all the kids were asleep, the angel would hop down onto the white dove (an ornament which I have also acquired) and the fly down to to the coffee table\u00a0where she would tap dance.\u00a0I guess he assumed that stories of Santa waiting until the kids were asleep would not be enough to convince them that they should hit the hay early&#8230; it sounds silly now, but to a kid,\u00a0the angel was real magic.\u00a0 My grandfather was the best storyteller I&#8217;ve ever known, and many of my favourite childhood Christmas memories include him in some way.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\">New: <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Making gingerbread houses.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 Jaia loved every second.\u00a0 So did Humphrey<\/span>.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Will post pictures this weekend.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small; font-family: Times New Roman;\"><a href=\"(http:\/\/www.potterybarnkids.com\/products\/ty293\/index.cfm?pkey=xsrd0m1%7C12%7C%7C%7C1%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C%7C%7Cadvent&amp;cm%5Fsrc=SCH) \">This<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\"> <\/span>I\u2019ve been coveting this for a couple of years and I finally made the purchase.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 It won&#8217;t come in handy this year, but I&#8217;m excited for it&#8217;s debut next December 1.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK6;\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">I hope to keep adding to this list as we spend more and more Christmases together and as parents.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve heard it said that you experience\u00a0the holidays\u00a0in a whole different way once you are a parent.\u00a0 It couldn&#8217;t be more true&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;
