{"id":1129,"date":"2008-10-29T08:19:51","date_gmt":"2008-10-29T12:19:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=1129"},"modified":"2008-10-29T08:19:51","modified_gmt":"2008-10-29T12:19:51","slug":"i-like-forgetfulca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=1129","title":{"rendered":"I like forgetful.ca"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the past few months, I haven&#8217;t been\u00a0paying\u00a0as much attention to forgetful.ca as I&#8217;d like to.\u00a0 But like\u00a0an old\u00a0friend, I&#8217;m happy that when I do come around again, the blog is happy to welcome me back.\u00a0 With open arms.\u00a0 My very own <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Giving_Tree\">Giving Tree<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A few times in the last couple of weeks, I questioned the date that something happened in our lives, or wanted to quickly pull up a photo of Jaia or Dan and I immediately went to the blog and did a search.\u00a0 And there it was.\u00a0 Exactly what I was looking for.\u00a0 A search engine for all things Fullerton.\u00a0 It helps that we&#8217;ve been writing our memoirs &#8211;\u00a0blog-style &#8211; since December 2005 and have posted over 600 times.\u00a0 In the last few years, the easy majority goes to posts about jaia, before and after her birth, but almost everything over the past three years has been documented.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like a diary&#8230;without the whole privacy thing getting in the way.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And I&#8217;ve really enjoyed my recent trips down Memory Lane.\u00a0 How great would it be to preserve everything written on forgetful.ca?\u00a0 Anniversary messages, birth announcements, daily photos of my daughter.\u00a0 And then I found it.\u00a0 A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blurb.com\">website<\/a> geared towards wanna-be writers that allows you upload your blog and\u00a0publish it in book format.\u00a0 A real book.\u00a0 Hardcover and pretty.\u00a0 And then, if you think anyone else might care, they can actually buy a copy for themselves.\u00a0 (No, not holding out hope).<\/p>\n<p>I had planned to do this for Jaia&#8217;s first birthday.\u00a0 A year of Photos of the Day that she could look back on.\u00a0 But I never found enough time.\u00a0 Our blog changed formats part of the way throught that year and Blurb.com did not accept the old format and that meant finding and re-uploading all the photos in order to have the book be complete.\u00a0 Not an easy task and it turns out that I&#8217;d much rather hang out with Jaia than hunt for pictures of her.\u00a0\u00a0And that task fell off the to-do list\u00a0as other things piled up.<\/p>\n<p>But I still want to do it.\u00a0 I actually think I&#8217;ll make it more of a yearly project where in January I order a book containing all the posts from the year before.\u00a0 That way Jaia still has access to the things we wrote and the wonderful things her friends and family have commented since before she was born, all wrapped up in a pretty, actually-hold-it-in-your-hands package.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My friend Sylvie, along with her husband &#8211; both accomplished photographers &#8211;\u00a0don&#8217;t have a public blog, but do have an adorable wee one of their own (just a few weeks younger than Jaia),\u00a0published a stack of Blurb.com\u00a0photo books for their family for Christmas last year.\u00a0 The quality was phenomenal and the books were beautiful.\u00a0 Everyone loved them.\u00a0 And since I&#8217;ve actually held one in my hand and flipped through it, all sense of worry about producing our own vanished.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to see how our version\u00a0turns out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the past few months, I haven&#8217;t been\u00a0paying\u00a0as much attention to forgetful.ca as I&#8217;d like to.\u00a0 But like\u00a0an old\u00a0friend, I&#8217;m happy that when I do come around again, the blog is happy to welcome me back.\u00a0 With open arms.\u00a0 My very own Giving Tree.
