{"id":1111,"date":"2008-10-09T11:38:43","date_gmt":"2008-10-09T15:38:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=1111"},"modified":"2008-10-09T11:38:43","modified_gmt":"2008-10-09T15:38:43","slug":"let-the-renos-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=1111","title":{"rendered":"Let the renos begin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So excited.<\/p>\n<p>When we moved into out 15 year-old house, we knew there would be a bit of work to do.\u00a0 Then, as we settled in, we discovered there was even more that we might want to update than we originally thought.\u00a0 Other than the paint colour and main level flooring, almost everything needs a little *help*.\u00a0 But we Fullertons like to tackle one project at a time, and right from our first viewing, we knew it would be the carpet that runs up the stairs to the second floor den and up unto the bedrooms that we would concentrate on first.<\/p>\n<p>At first sight it was fine, acceptable almost, but one step on the badly worn underpad which, when you investigate by removing the vent cover &#8211; not even a high traffic area, looks to be the thickness of cardstock.\u00a0\u00a0After living in our last house which had upgraded underpad and the most beautiful berber carpet on the upper level, this carpet was near unbearable.<\/p>\n<p>But then, faced with the decision, we decided to go with a whole, unexpected approach.\u00a0 Berber in the main areas and on the stairs, GORGEOUS bamboo in the bedrooms.\u00a0 AND we (Dan) would install it ourselves.\u00a0 Risky, yes, but something Dan wanted to learn to do anyway and since we are doing three seperate rooms, we could take our sweet time getting it done.<\/p>\n<p>So a couple of weeks ago, off he went to buy supplies, the wood, the tools.\u00a0 He ripped out the carpet and went to work.\u00a0 The first day was spent preparing the floor and learning how to use the tools.\u00a0 But the second day he was underway.\u00a0 He quickly got the hang of it and by the end of the second weekend, the floor was down.\u00a0 In one room.\u00a0 The spare room.\u00a0 The room we don&#8217;t <em>really<\/em> use.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dsc_6361sm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1134\" title=\"dsc_6361sm\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dsc_6361sm-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dsc_6454sm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1135\" title=\"dsc_6454sm\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/dsc_6454sm-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now the real test of organization begins.\u00a0 First Jaia&#8217;s room because it is smaller and then ours.\u00a0 Both are going to upset the house for the length of time, for the mere fact that there will be no good place to store all the stuff.\u00a0 That and prying a little girl from her room and have her sleep comfortably and soundly somewhere other than her own bed is going to be a feat in itself.\u00a0 But at least the floors will be pretty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So excited.
