{"id":1079,"date":"2008-08-28T11:47:40","date_gmt":"2008-08-28T15:47:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/?p=1079"},"modified":"2008-08-28T11:47:40","modified_gmt":"2008-08-28T15:47:40","slug":"before-we-forget-august-28th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/forgetful.ca\/?p=1079","title":{"rendered":"Before we forget &#8211; August 28th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dan and I are very lucky.\u00a0 Though we haven&#8217;t worried much about it, we always wondered if Jaia would be a good eater.\u00a0 The Fullertons love their food, and we don&#8217;t take breakfast, lunch or dinner lightly around our house.\u00a0 And it turns out, that jaia is just like us.\u00a0 Surprise, surprise.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up I was afraid of food.\u00a0 Not in any sort of &#8216;disorder&#8217; way, just afraid to try new things, or slimy things, or spicy things, or wiggly things or jiggly things.\u00a0 Veggies, I was all over them, but fish or seafood or any strange meat and I pretended to not like it, even if I had never even tasted it.\u00a0 It looked gross and that was enough.<\/p>\n<p>Then I met Dan.\u00a0 And me saying, &#8216;ummm, not interested&#8217; was never enough.\u00a0 He&#8217;s big on trying anything once, and he somehow convinved to do the same.\u00a0 Since meeting him I&#8217;ve tried sushi (still not a fan, but at least I tried), fish including salmon, trout, halibut, etc., all of which I actually like, Indian food (ADORE), Thai food (YUM!)&#8230;and I could go on.\u00a0 I eat so many more things than I used to and am so thankful for it.<\/p>\n<p>And then we had a baby.\u00a0 She moved from milk, to purees to simple, bland solids.\u00a0 And now, at 20-months old, she eats almost everything we do.\u00a0 Her plates, once organized with small bite-sized pieces of a meat, a veggie, a grain and a dairy now look exactly like ours, only smaller.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t remember it happening, but I&#8217;m pleased.\u00a0 I love that she eats what we do and that she isn&#8217;t going to wait until she&#8217;s 28 to try new and different things like I did.\u00a0 And I&#8217;ve made a promise to myself that my own apprehension about some (gross) foods will stay in the vault.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t want to be responsible for influencing her one way or another.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The other night we made a curry\/rice\/veg dish.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t think about having an exit strategy if Jaia turned her nose up at the semi-spicy meal,\u00a0 I just put it in front of her and hoped for the best.\u00a0 Success.\u00a0 She immediately went to town.\u00a0 And asked for more once her plate was clean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/2805760042_f162dfab5612.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1082\" title=\"2805760042_f162dfab5612\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/2805760042_f162dfab5612-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/2804911013_5d2b17ea381.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1083\" title=\"2804911013_5d2b17ea381\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forgetful.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/2804911013_5d2b17ea381-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have to admit, fish has not been as successful, nor has sushi.\u00a0 Her dad is pretty down about not having a partner in the whole sushi game, he&#8217;s hoping she&#8217;ll grow to like it.\u00a0 If not, I don&#8217;t blame her one bit.\u00a0 Ew.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dan and I are very lucky.\u00a0 Though we haven&#8217;t worried much about it, we always wondered if Jaia would be a good eater.\u00a0 The Fullertons love their food, and we don&#8217;t take breakfast, lunch or dinner lightly around our house.\u00a0 And it turns out, that jaia is just like us.\u00a0 Surprise, surprise.
